Throw Kindness Around Like Confetti
We, in the Houston metroplex, have been “born” to band together through crisis. To jump in and “fix” things physically is simply what we do. I invite you to join me in tuning in to being more creative in the ways we all are jumping in and supporting one another as we live through this COVID-19 pandemic.
Yes, there are feelings of disbelief and feelings of helplessness and isolation but we can still care for each other. Embrace the notion of “Caremongering” and spreading kindness. During these trying, unprecedented times let’s spread something more infectious than COVID…let’s spread kindness.
Spreading the Kindness
There are so many ways, big and small, to show caring and support during these times. Use these ideas to get started and don’t hesitate to add in your own creative ways.
· Offering to get groceries or prescriptions for an elderly friend or neighbor.
· Call friends to check on them.
· Only post friendly, uplifting messages on social media.
· Jump on a Zoom call with kiddos to help distract an exhausted parent.
· Donate blood.
· Offer to walk someone’s pet.
· Add a chalk drawing to your sidewalk.
· Add books to a neighborhood lending library.
· Donate items as your community makes requests.
· Support local restaurants via curbside orders and delivery. (Read my recent blog post for a listing of places around Missouri City and Sugar Land.)
· Consider participating in Adopting a Senior from your local high school to send them a card or words of encouragement.
· A little cheer goes a long way so wear a smile. A smile can be heard in your voice when you’re on the phone.
Take these days to feel the joy of caring for others and spreading kindness.
